I skipped yesterday’s run at lunch to get a 50 minute massage instead. I chose wisely. My back has been in knots recently and yesterday morning I just couldn’t take it anymore. So I called the spa close to work and got myself set up with a Swedish massage.
Man, that felt good! She worked on the knots and just opening my back and shoulders back up. I still have a little tightness left, but that should do away shortly. I seem to get bad bouts of knots during in the winter. I think it is somewhat related to tensing up outside in the cold.
No matter what the cause, I now have relief! I am currently reading (and will soon start practicing) Core Performanceby Mark Verstegen. It is an integrated workout program designed to strengthen your core, or “pillar” as he likes to call it, and increase it’s flexibility. Core strength and flexibility are incredibly important to all people, regardless or job, activity level, sex, or age. If I follow this program through, I should be able to reduce or eliminate these annoying knots. That doesn’t mean I’m going to give up massages, though! 😉
